Why We Started LOXKIN

Rethinking the final layer

Most people don’t think about what finishes wood.

But that final layer decides everything.

It determines how long something lasts.
Whether it can be repaired.
Whether it stays in use - or ends up as waste.

And for a long time, that part of the process has been overlooked.

Wood is one of the most natural materials we work with and one of the rarest materials in the entire universe.

It grows slowly. Stores carbon. Carries history in its grain.

But too often, at the final stage, we cover it with finishes that don’t work with the material - they sit on top of it. They crack, peel, and fail over time. When they do, the process of stripping, sanding, and re-finishing often becomes too much.

So the piece gets replaced.

Not because the wood has failed but because the system around it has.

When we started looking more closely, this pattern showed up everywhere.

Products labelled as “eco” or “sustainable” still designed to fail.
Finishes that sealed the surface but shortened the life of the material.
A focus on what goes into a product, rather than what happens to it over time.

It felt like we were solving the wrong part of the problem.

The shift for us was simple.

What if sustainability isn’t just about materials but about lifespan?

What if the goal isn’t to create something new…
but to keep what already exists in use for as long as possible?

That’s where LOXKIN comes from.

LOXKIN is not just a finish.
It’s the final layer that determines whether wood stays in the system - or becomes waste.

Our oils are designed to work with the material, not against it.
They penetrate into the grain, rather than sitting on top.
They protect, nourish, and allow wood to age naturally - not degrade.

This means surfaces can be maintained, repaired, and re-finished over time, without needing to be stripped back or replaced entirely.

It’s a quieter approach.

But over time, it changes everything.

We’re not trying to reinvent wood.

We’re trying to respect it.

To extend its life.
To reduce the need for replacement.
To support systems where materials are cared for, not consumed.

Because in nature, nothing is wasted.

And if we’re paying attention, there’s no reason our materials should be either.

This is just the beginning of that thinking.

And we’re glad you’re part of it.
